Madagascar Smelter

On a cycling trip across Madagascar in 2016, Steve and I visited a foundry at Ambatolampy, a small city in the central highlands, where we watched in awe and horror as workers, barefoot and bare handed, melted old aluminium items over an open fire and then poured the hot liquid into moulds to make new items such as cooking pots.
