A little bit about me...
Hailing from Perth, WA, followed by a few wonderful years
in Hobart, I have been living in Wollongong – thought to mean "sound of the sea" in the Dharawal language – for nearly 40 years. I love living in this beautiful place, which has enabled me to lead an extraordinarily blessed and enjoyable life, and one of the things that makes my life so enjoyable is having the opportunity to paint.
...and a bit more about my painting
Water colour painting has been a serious endeavour for me for only about 6 years. However, my attraction to art and to the medium dates back to my childhood. My dad was an accomplished water colour artist of Australian landscape scenes, and from when I was about 10 years old, he would show me the basics of watercolour and take me to the outskirts of Perth to paint landscapes.

Although I was introduced to watercolour painting by my dad, my most important teacher, influencer and mentor is Ann Clarke, a Wollongong based and TAFE-qualified art teacher, who has shared her mastery of drawing and watercolour (and ink) technique with me and many other aspiring artists with great skill, patience and generosity. My introduction to Ann was via my dear friend Mandy who was attending Ann’s classes and invited me to the annual students’ exhibition. That was all I needed.
Working primarily in watercolours and ink, with an occasional addition of oil pastels, my compositions are inspired by personal relationships with family and friends, and with places and experiences, both close to home and overseas. Whether working with landscapes, people, plants, animals, buildings or still life compositions, I aim to capture the immediacy and momentary mood of an image or experience. I want to reveal something if not unique, at least particular about a person or place or set of objects. Sometimes that emerges very quickly and quite accidentally but with other compositions, it is a result of a slow, methodical application of many layers of colour to achieve a desired – or desirable – image.
