Madagascar Landscape
2024
This painting is based on a photo that I took in 2016 when flying from Toliara on the southwest coast of Madagascar to the capital city of Antananarivo after traversing the country by bike. Madagascar is a culturally rich and diverse country, but it is also one of the world’s poorest. The composition attempts to capture the precarity of life for tiny farming communities that are dependent on a typically very low rainfall to fill the river – the lifeblood of the area.
